Inclusion, Opportunity, Access

Croydon Digital Inclusion is proudly supported by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) through the Digital Inclusion Innovation Fund — a national programme designed to close the digital divide and ensure that every community in the United Kingdom can share equally in the opportunities of a connected world.
DSIT’s investment recognises that digital inclusion is about more than just technology — it’s about people, opportunity and access. Across the country, many households remain offline or lack the confidence to use essential online services such as healthcare, banking, education or job applications. The Digital Inclusion Innovation Fund was created to address these barriers by supporting innovative local projects, like ours in Croydon, that combine creativity, community partnership and practical delivery.
Through this fund, DSIT has invested over £7 million nationally to pilot and scale community-led approaches to digital inclusion. Each project demonstrates a unique model for helping residents get online and stay online — whether through digital skills training, access to devices, tailored support for vulnerable groups, or technology designed with accessibility in mind. Croydon Digital Inclusion is one of the funded initiatives leading this effort at the community level.
Our work under this programme focuses on bridging digital inequalities across Croydon by providing access to Android tablets, community workshops, and one-to-one mentoring. With DSIT’s backing, we’re equipping residents — from young people and families to older adults and newcomers — with the knowledge, confidence and tools to participate fully in the digital society.
This funding has allowed us to:
• Deliver free tablet training sessions in multiple community hubs across Croydon.
• Distribute devices to learners who would otherwise be excluded from online access.
• Develop tailored resources supporting online safety, digital literacy and employability.
• Partner with local schools, charities and business networks to reach diverse groups.
• Build capacity for long-term community delivery beyond the life of the initial grant.
The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology’s support represents a commitment not just to technology, but to inclusive growth, social impact and empowerment. It recognises that local organisations — those rooted in their communities — are best placed to understand local needs and deliver meaningful change.
We are deeply grateful for this partnership and proud to represent Croydon within a national network of organisations driving forward the UK’s mission for universal digital inclusion. Together, we are proving that when government, business and community come together, digital opportunity can reach everyone.
“Digital inclusion is at the heart of an innovative, fair and connected society. Every citizen, every business and every community should have the tools to thrive in the digital age.” — Department for Science, Innovation and Technology
